Where are you on the exponential curve?

Thanks for reading How to Create the Conditions for Great Work. The idea of not knowing where we are on an exponential curve is a powerful one. But only if you know what an exponential curve looks like. That’s what this page is for. If you want to remind yourself why you got here or read the original article, it’s here.

Here is an exponential curve that I made in excel. Beautiful, eh?

What it's hard to see even on a graph shared in this way is that what looks like a flat line at the bottom is in fact increasing all the time incredibly slowly. Then, suddenly, as it approaches and then passes 0, it shoots up to infinity. How do you know where you are on the ‘horizontal’ line? Are you way over to the left, or could you be just seconds away from shooting to infinity?

And, as I wrote in the chapter, one of the interesting things is: how do you think it affects your life if you always live like wonderful - infinity - could happen at any moment?

Oh, and if you’re interested, here’s a picture, inspired by my friend Nina and the conversation I relate in that chapter of the book, of a note I had on my wall for a long time. Remember. Wonderful is just a moment away.
