The Possibility in Partnerships

First published on January 20, 2017

There is such a sense of possibility in partnerships. The right partnership, the right connection with another person or group of people, holds a power far greater than the sum of its individual members.

Just over a year ago, I met a fellow coach, Nicole Brigandi at a Brené Brown talk, and there started a partnership which has undoubtedly led to fascinating, creative and stretching work which neither of us would have otherwise done. And I've enjoyed that work so much more because of - and I'd go so far as to say I wouldn't have managed it at all except for - that partnership. For us, this has been a number of activities, ranging from our first work together, a session on team dynamics and objectives with an incredibly inspiring team of young leaders, to the beginnings of a video series (more to come soon!).

Partnerships hold so much potential. The potential for practical support, when members of the partnership have other commitments, emotional support when the work gets hard. But it is the creative support which in many ways holds the real gold here. A real partnership leads to the creation of things which just couldn't have existed with both people working on their own. That's the imperative behind partnerships.

Every time you turn down a partnership, or don't pluck up the courage to start the one you want to start, you cheat the world of the outcomes, the creative outcomes, that could be the fruits of the connection between you and someone else.

And today, in this era, the possibilities are even greater. There is a world of partners at your fingertips.
